Although Call of Duty: Black Ops on PC featured dedicated servers, its predecessor Modern Warfare 2 didn't, which caused a lot of controversy back in 2009 - including a petition that was signed by over 100,000 gamers. Dedicated servers in general provide a smooth gameplay experience and allow more players to join a match, for example, Battlefield 3 will have lag free 64 player multiplayer matches on the PC.
Learning from their mistake, Infinity Ward has now confirmed that the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers.Robert Bowling: "Yes! Modern Warfare 3 on PC will support dedicated servers, day 1. You can fav or admin your own to control setup, rules, bans."Glen Schofield of Sledgehammer Games has also confirmed that there will be official MW3 servers available when the game ships to stores. It's most likely, but not confirmed, that GameServers.com will be the only provider for the dedicated servers, just like with Black Ops.
